Working Class Hero — John Lennon
Lennon grew up in working class, economically depraved Liverpool, but he came from a family of relative wealth and comfort. But he saw the world with a keen eye, witnessing poverty in his backyard and experiencing the madness from the top down, helping sharpen his perception of society and justice.
Once a trouble making rabble rouser with no thought of the future, Lennon became the voice for the underprivileged, the sick, the poor. He became a Working Class Hero.
When they’ve tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can’t really function you’re so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you’re so clever and class less and free
But you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see
