Rain — The Beatles
Never on a proper album, and a B-side to “Paperback Writer,” Rain nonetheless is one of the Beatles’ most revolutionary songs.
The harbinger of their sonic, psychedelic future sound, this was a result of the Beatles excitement to use the studio as an instrument itself. Engineer Geoff Emerick recorded both the music and John’s vocals faster than normal, so they sound slurred and dreamy when played back at normal speed.
I’ll let George Harrison, who narrates this video, give the rest of the surprise details.
